Inspired: A FREE Community Poetry Writing Workshop

trishhopkinsonpoet's avatarRock Canyon Poets

Memories can inspire–and expressing those memories in poetry can help us to remember, save, celebrate, and even heal. A free community poetry writing workshop entitled “Inspired” helps participants create a new poem as a response to a memory using writing prompts and exercises. Offered annually in participation with the Utah Humanities Book Festival by Rock Canyon Poets and Pioneer Book, this workshop will be presented in two sessions, followed by a reception and poetry reading. Participants will be encouraged to submit their poem to be included in a printed anthology and contributors will receive a free copy.

2016 Chalk the Block Festival. September 22-24, 2016

chalktheblock.PNGCome out this week and join ProvoPoetry.org in celebrating this year’s Chalk the Block Festival! We are pleased to sponsoring artist Claire Hart. Claire will be including the poem Burning Bush from our POEMBALL submissions in her artwork starting on Thursday and completing the piece on Saturday. Bring the whole family out for three days of art, poetry and fun! Come add your own poem or a favorite poem to the sidewalks in the Riverwoods. They will be providing chalk so everyone can participate.

There will be over 300 artists participating in this event. Individuals and teams are welcome to register for the event to reserve specific spots for their art. The Chalk the Block Festival will provide one box of chalk to registered teams/individuals, but participants can provide their own as well. This event is open to the public though you must register to be an artist.

claireA little information about Claire. Claire Hart, is an Art Director for the Advertising Emphasis in the Communications program at BYU. She did a graphic representation of Rob Carney’s “She’s Like the Sky. That Endlessly Beautiful” on the giant chalkboard of BYU’s The Wall restaurant in May 2016. Come see the poetry as well as the other artists at this fundraising event to help children in Utah Valley.

For more information about the event, visit the webpage at The Shops at Riverwoods website (here) or the Chalk the Block FaceBook Page (here).
